Getting Started Online

Many business owners and managers face the same problem, it can be costly to have a web site or E-Commerce store built for small and start-up businesses.

The entry level package Online Business Card costs - $690.00 setup plus $120.00 per anum hosting and increases only with your needs. Unlike some other web site designs an Eziup Site can be updated by an average computer user - meaning your ongoing cost is significantly reduced. However if you would like help that is available at an affordable charge.

Some web designers forget that often our customers have very little or even no knowledge of what is involved in getting online and they don\'t explain in an easy to understand way how to get up and happening online.

Generally it isn't really that hard.... here is a rough outline of what you as a customer need to do.

  • You need a domain name - this is the web address that your customer will type in or that you will link to with Yellow pages etc. It costs under $30 per anum.
  • You need web hosting - this is the space online that you own or rent to store your web site. An average business site will cost $20 per month.
  • You need a web site - choose between just straight advertising or an ecommerce site.

Eziup can help with purchase of a domain name, with web hosting and obviously web site design.

Domain name

The domain name identifies your web site online. There are different types of domain names. For most Australian business we are interested in .com and .com.au.

The .com can be purchased by anyone.

The .com.au can only be purchased by an ABN or ACN holder and the name must reflect either your name, your business practice or your business name.

Web Hosting

This is literally hard drive space for your web site somewhere in the world on a server (a computer connected to the world wide web) that you either own or lease from a hosting company.

Eziup is a hosting business and can help you with this.

8 reasons why you should have a website

1. the internet continues to grow

Statistics show that just over 14.7 million people use the internet in Australia on average every month. As of 2008, 75.9% of Austalia’s population is online. And in the period 2000-2007 Australia’s internet use grew by a skyrocketing 123%. As a business, now is the time to get involved. The internet can give your business the opportunity to expand into new areas and expose you to a whole new audience.

Statistics from http://www.internetworldstats.com Jan 11 2007

2. introduce yourself to new customers

Potential customers want to know more about the businesses they are dealing with. More and more they are looking to the business’s website for this information. With a website you can present yourself, your staff and the intentions of your business clearly and professionally. Being able to refer potential business to a well designed website will also give you and your staff a greater sense of pride and con?dence.

3. level the playing ?eld

On the internet small and large businesses can compete on a more level playing ?eld. A professional website can present a small business with all the ?air and impact of larger businesses. Likewise, well established businesses fall ?at on the internet if the website does not match their status.

4. build credibility and trust

A well designed website gives your business credibility and professionalism. This instills a level of trust with your customer which increases their purchasing con?dence. An unprofessional website will re?ect badly on your perceived professionalism, and not having a website at all can work against you when being compared with the competition.

5. be open for business 24/7

Provide service and information to customers and potential customers around the clock with no extra effort or staff costs. Digital media is immediate and delivers answers while buyers are still hot. It is also highly interactive and with the right scripts can elicit sales with little or no personal contact.

6. cost effective marketing

The Internet can be the most effective and cost ef?cient way to advertise and reach quali?ed prospects. Search engine optimisation and sponsored searches are very affordable and can deliver results for a fraction of the cost of regular print ads. No matter what the size of your business, your website is a powerful and cost-effective direct marketing and communication tool.

7. second shop front - sell anything online

Any products or services you sell can be made immediately available to a wide audience. Just like opening another branch, your website literally can be a way to grow your business.

8. businesses are not alone on the Internet

Many individuals, communities and clubs are enjoying being part of the online world, sharing photos, hobbies, resumes, expertise and even good recipes! The Internett is a social and cultural phenomenon of our time, its great to be a part of it.

Well you have decided on a website, what do we do now.

  • We talk it over and you provide a plan of the site.

  • You provide a simple business plan brief.

  • We discuss site options and decide on a package.

So now we talk about things like time frames and costs. Most website take longer than you will expect as very few customers have everything they need to build a site. Generally a simple business site will take around 2 weeks from beginning to sign off. An ecommerce site will usually take 4 weeks to get to sign off unless the customer has all the content and product photos ready to go including any header graphics.

Once we commence and a first draft has been shown to the customer which the customer has approved the look and general layout a 50% payment will be required that is not refundable. An 80% completion payment will be taken when the site is mostly complete, at this stage the site map, analytics, and any payment gateways will be installed to lead to completion.
